「君に届け」(Kimi ni Todoke) actually is your regular single, but I tend to think Flumpool changes the way that Japanese Pop Rock has been released. After all, unlike normal Japanese Pop, Flumpool members live to make music - they don't dance, break dance, act or have a TV show - which makes their work refined.
The band, originally from Osaka, has four members.
Ryuta Yamamura (山村 隆太) - Vocals and Guitar
Kazuki Sakai (阪井 一生) - Guitar and Backing vocals
Genki Amakawa (尼川 元気) - Bass
Seiji Ogura (小倉 誠司) - Drums
When I say refined, I mean that Kazuki obviously want to make pop-rock, but adds his own touch instead of obeying studio rules. Piano and violin have been constant elements of flumpool (they keep their name without a capital f, by the way) since the release of 花になれ(Hana ni Nare) in 2008. Only about flumpool, sometimes the opinion that those do not usually match electric guitars usually arise, but one should never forget that Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman were once performed with Philharmonics.
Although lacking strength a many times, Ryuta's vocals are clear and perfectly pitch, which can be tested by watching the short live versions of all their songs in the DVD included with the purchase. In his words, it's more about writing a song, interpreting it and trying to forward the message.
This time, the single was released as the main soundtrack of the movie of same title. The meaning is basically making your message reach someone dear, transparent and strong. That's simple enough, but pleasant enough to be my first suggestion of the season, as a flumpool fan.
